Why there is no
price list.
It is a fair question, and the usual answer — "it depends" — is unsatisfying. So here is the long version: there is no list because the same fixture means two hours of work on one evening and eight on the next. What you pay for is rarely just the equipment. Once you know which five things move the price, you can read a quote — and compare two of them honestly.
Equipment: the part you can see
What arrives in the way of gear is the obvious share — and often not the largest. The rule here: more is not better, fitting is better. An oversized system makes a speech less intelligible, not louder; a finer LED pitch is money thrown out if the front row sits eight metres away. This item can almost always be reduced by describing more precisely what is supposed to happen.
Build time: the part that surprises people
The same build costs a different amount of time depending on where it stands. A hall with a lift and vehicle access to the door is not the same as a vaulted cellar up a spiral staircase, and a marquee on a field is not the same as a hall with power on the wall. Describe the venue precisely when you enquire — access, floor, lift, ground — and you get a more reliable quote, and usually a cheaper one.
Crew: who is there during the event
Some setups we hand over ready to go, and the organiser presses two buttons themselves. Others need somebody on site — as soon as there are changeovers, several programme items, speeches and music alternating, or a band with a soundcheck. This is the item where saving money shows up first, and in the wrong moment.
Travel and duration
Travel is distance times vehicles — on larger builds it is not one car. And duration works differently than you might think: a build that stays up overnight does not cost double, but it does tie up equipment for another day. Conversely, an event where everything has to come down the same evening can cost more than one where there is time the next morning.
What you can do to make it cheaper
Enquire early — short notice is almost always dearer, because equipment and people are already committed. Describe precisely instead of rounding generously: "roughly 200 guests, details later" produces a cautious quote; precise details produce a tight one. And say what matters to you: knowing that it hinges on the speeches rather than the light show changes how we plan.

Because any figure that stood there would be wrong in most cases — too high for the simple build, too low for the demanding one. What you get instead is a quote within a day that fits your case.

For small setups, certainly, and we do hire out without a technician. As soon as something is rigged overhead, power has to be distributed, or things change during the event, the sum usually looks different — not because of the equipment, but because of the time.
Only if it contains the same things. Two quotes become comparable once you can see who is on site and for how long, who builds and strikes, and what happens if something fails. Those are exactly the items a very cheap quote often leaves out.
